Montgomery County announced today that the Montgomery County Courthouse will be illuminated green as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans, a nationwide initiative led by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers. This campaign invites counties, local businesses, and citizens to demonstrate their support for veterans by lighting buildings green from November 4-11.
Operation Green Light, now in its third year, will unite hundreds of counties across the country in raising awareness about the resources available to veterans and their families. Montgomery County is proud to participate as a symbol of support for those who have served in the military and to promote a welcoming, veteran-friendly community.
"Montgomery County is proud to join communities nationwide in supporting our veterans through Operation Green Light,” said Chairman Doug Singleton. “By lighting our landmarks green, we show our gratitude and commitment to those who have served, reminding veterans and their families that our community is here to support them.”
Vice Chairman Isaiah Sankey echoed this sentiment, adding, "Honoring our veterans goes beyond words—it’s about action and visible support. By joining Operation Green Light, we’re letting veterans in Montgomery County know they have our full support, and we’re committed to connecting them to the resources they need and deserve.”
Veterans often face unique challenges in their transition to civilian life, including navigating available benefits, employment assistance, and mental health resources. Through initiatives like Operation Green Light, Montgomery County aims to break down these barriers, building a stronger network of support for veterans within the community and encouraging residents to learn more about the services available to those who have served.
In addition to lighting county buildings, Montgomery County encourages residents, businesses, and organizations to participate by changing one light bulb in their homes or businesses to a green bulb. By shining a green light, the community sends a clear message of appreciation and support, while promoting discussions about the needs of veterans and ways to strengthen local services for them.
Montgomery County and citizens across the nation will share their support for this initiative on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.
